Faculty senators at Southeast Missouri State University said they are heartened by recent comments from members of Board of Regents indicating willingness to consider possible athletic budget cuts; Faculty Senate yesterday elected not to circulate petition among faculty members voicing concern about April 15 vote by regents rejecting $250,000 athletic budget cut.

Cape Girardeau will host undisputed "hottest" air show act in nation, when U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform at Aviation Days May 9 to 10; securing Blue Angels is major coup for city, as they do only 32 shows all year long, 16 in Europe.

25 years ago: April 30, 1977

Army Corps of Engineers placed rock and rip-rap in several washouts along Mississippi River bank in South Cape Girardeau over past two weeks; about 10,000 tons of rock was used to patch up caved in places, with worst washouts being at Cape Grain Co., Mobil Oil Co. dock and spot 400 feet upstream from grain dock.

Cairo - County government source says as much as $20,000 a year in income may be lost to Alexander County government in form of interest on county money which isn't invested; estimated loss in revenue is based on 5 percent interest rate which money could receive if it were invested.

50 years ago: April 30, 1952

Mississippi River, on its present rise, will crest late Saturday at 38 1/2 feet, says weather observer J.F. McGruder; this will mean additional rise of about 8 inches from today's 37.8-foot stage; it is still business as usual in retail area of Main Street; water over Main-Independence intersection and along curbs extends up to Bahn Brothers Hardware Co.; Hutson's Furniture store, with a raised floor, is above water which, however, was washed on sidewalk by traffic.

It will cost $1,279,148.13 to operate Cape Girardeau Public Schools in 1952-53; that is figure adopted by school board as its budgetary estimate on anticipated income and expenditures in fiscal school year which begins July 1; included in expected expenditures is $720,993.13 toward construction of new high school building.

75 years ago: April 30, 1927

In effort to prevent epidemic of typhoid fever, district-wide campaign, inaugurated by state board of health and in which physicians of every community in Southeast Missouri are aiding, has been launched as floodwaters are beginning to recede; refugees at every point in flood district are being inoculated against the disease, and more of vaccine will be secured for inoculating townspeople in communities where refugees have been sheltered.

S.P. Siebert, proprietor of Main Street shoe store, announces purchase of three Osterloh apartments on South Spanish Street from Anna, Clara and Agnes Osterloh and Mrs. Charles Cofer; Siebert plans no change in building at present; apartments are in immediate proximity to approach of new traffic bridge.
