Six Southeast Missouri State University alumni living in St. Louis will be honored Thursday when the university's board of regents meets in St. Louis for only the third time in history; those to be honored, all members of the Copper Dome Society, are Stephen N. Limbaugh, George Baxter, Dr. John Buttrey, Joe Torrist, William Volenetz and Tom Zych.
A public hearing has been set for Wednesday at city hall to discuss the proposed use of an estimated $11,496 in tax revenue for the Cape Girardeau Downtown Special Business District.
The State College Board of Regents has been forced by the State Division of the Budget to drop $2,151,000 in fire and extended coverage insurance on campus buildings used for instructional purposes; college officials say the action was taken reluctantly after regents were informed the state administration doesn't believe state-owned buildings should be covered by insurance.
Bids accepted yesterday by the Cape Girardeau School Board for a four-room addition to the new elementary school under construction west of Dennis Scivally Park exceeded by more than $6,000 the amount available for the work.
Cape Girardeau Mayor Edward L. Drum is notified by the State Highway Department that bids for improving South Sprigg Street, which includes its widening and reconstruction, will be received by the state May 5; the project is nine-tenths of a mile long.
Work has been completed on the placing of a metal sheet roof over that of a composition roof on the home of John Sandman, 322 Morgan Oak St.; Sandman did the work himself.
The Mississippi River is rising steadily; the sloughs on the east side of the river are filled with water, and farmers expect an overflow at the low points.
Mrs. Eli Abernathy entertains the Ladies' Aid Society of the Jackson Presbyterian church in honor of her sisters, Mrs. Lowery Hope of Leora, Mo., and Mrs. David Seibert of St. Louis, who have been her guests the for past two weeks.
