Resort Air, a St. Louis-based regional airline, may soon begin flights to and from Cape Girardeau now that Air Illinois has ceased operations.
Construction bids for the new Saint Francis Outpatient Mental Health Center have been awarded; the new facility will be built on hospital property facing Mount Auburn Road; the successful bidder for general contractor is Kiefner Brothers of Perryville, Mo.
Two papers of incorporation under the general and business corporations act of Missouri have been filed for record; they are Mid-South Construction and Drury Development, both of Cape Girardeau.
Conflicts between Cape Girardeau's zoning laws and the actual practice of property owners in housing students in the State College area are aired at the city council meeting; most of the property around the college is zoned for two-family use, which prohibits any of the residences from being used for students; many homes in the area, however, are being used as boarding and rooming houses.
Three more railroad box cars for use as Girl Scout cabins in the city park have been made available; two cars are already in the park, and the others are on the Missouri Pacific tracks and will be moved to the park soon.
Two new nurses, one for white children and one for black children, are to be employed and paid with federal funds to give instructions at the nursing school in the Smelterville suburb during the next four weeks; the school is for children from 2 to 5 years old and will be held at the Pentecostal Church.
The majority of property owners on Main Street, from Independence Street to Broadway, have signed a petition asking the Cape Girardeau City Council to order the street paved with wood blocks; to pave Main Street will necessitate the paving of Broadway and Good Hope Street as well.
John C. Burkle has purchased all of the property belonging to the Black Diamond Coal & Ice Co., 216 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau.
