25 years ago: April 20, 1980

The Rev. and Mrs. John Hall, missionaries to West Africa, speak at First Assembly of God in the morning and evening; the Halls have served as missionaries to Africa for 48 years.

Evangelistic services are being held today through Friday at Lynwood Baptist Church; the Rev. Melvin Moody of Altus, Okla., is the evangelist.

50 years ago: April 20, 1955

City and political party officials and civic leaders admonish Cape Girardeau voters they must comply with the new registration requirements if they expect to vote in future elections; they say many residents apparently don't realize that all prior registrations are null and void, and that they must reregister.

Acting to avoid confusion over administration of private immunizations with the Salk polio vaccine, the Cape Girardeau County Medical Society announces that its members will withhold giving the shots until an ample supply is on hand in the county to adequately provide for the most susceptible group.

75 years ago: April 20, 1930

Commemorating the Resurrection, Cape Girardeau churches hold special services in observance of Easter; sunrise services are held at First Christian Church, with Dr. Joseph A. Serena of the Teachers College presiding, and at Grace Methodist Church.

Figures from the current census being conducted now show Illmo's population has decreased by 146 since 1920; the 1930 count of Illmo is 1,129.

100 years ago: April 20, 1905

Mrs. Fannie Daues, mother of the prosecuting attorney of the county, dies at a local hospital; she was one of the old residents of the city and was held in high esteem.

In a few days, a store for the retailing of dairy goods will be opened on Aquamsi Street, near the Planters' Mill; two St. Louis, Mo., men are in the city making arrangements for the opening about May 1; Landl & Brother is the name of the new firm.
