Kenneth McManaman, chairman of the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Central Committee, says there are no front-runners for the party's nomination for sheriff; but other party leaders indicate that former county Sheriff Herman "Bob" Gribler of Jackson will likely seek and receive the party's nomination.
Kevin Sawyer will seek a recount of yesterday's votes, after losing by one vote to Ward 2 Alderman Don Cook in the Jackson aldermanic election.

Easter Sunday.
ALTO PASS, Ill. -- Dr. Roy Buffat of Cobden, Ill., delivers the sermon at the 25th annual Easter sunrise service atop Bald Knob Mountain, at the scene of the 100-foot neon cross; music is provided by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Chorus of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Ground-breaking services were held last Sunday for the new Third Street Baptist Church parsonage at 1712 Randol St.; the congregation plans to construct a church building and educational unit in the near future.

The matter of whether Cape Girardeau will support a baseball team in the Kitty League is still being debated; subscriptions of nearly $700 were recently secured, but large amounts of money will be needed for the endeavour.
J. Morton Thompson's name is filed as a candidate for the Cape Girardeau Board of Education, his being the first placed on file with the secretary; friends of Arthur W. Thilenius are considering submitting his name as well.
100 years ago: April 2, 1911
At Trinity Lutheran Church in the morning, the German confirmation class is examined in the truths of the Christian religion; the class is composed of 25 pupils of the parochial school; besides these, a class of eight has received instruction in the English catechism; both classes will be confirmed on Palm Sunday.
Mrs. Mary Jones, wife of Dr. Jones of Huron, Kansas, is in Cape Girardeau visiting her father, Judge Alexander Ross, and being warmly welcomed by her old classmates of the Normal School, including W.H. Miller and Rodney Whitelaw.
