BIEHLE, Mo. -- A spectacular fire destroys the general supply store at the Buchheit Inc. compound here; the multilevel structure, center of Buchheit Inc. since 1934, catches fire in the morning; grease, oil, paint, aerosol cans, cleaning fluids, ammunition and other items fuel the roaring blaze.

It is announced that an Amtrak passenger train will make trips between St. Louis and Cape Girardeau during the annual Riverfest June 20 and 21, carrying passengers between the two cities.

50 years ago: April 19, 1961

City clerk Verna Lee Landis has attached a certificate of sufficiency on petitions submitted by opponents of public housing, and a decision on an election will be made by the City Council; the council has 20 days in which either to pass the ordinance attached to the petition or to call an election; the petition asks for the repeal of the public housing ordinance.

A five-member committee has been named by residents of the Oak Ridge area to negotiate for the location of a factory there to manufacture baby shoes.

75 years ago: April 19, 1936

The congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church honors F.W. Niermann, principal of Trinity Lutheran School, at a special evening service at the church, the occasion being his 25th anniversary as a teacher in the school.

George Heuer, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. August Heuer of Perryville Road, suffered a brain concussion yesterday when he was kicked by a horse as he fell from a wagon; he is being treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

100 years ago: April 19, 1911

Mrs. Vincent Dunker, with daughter Majilla, of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., arrived yesterday to join her husband, who has opened a new photography studio in the Grissom building on Broadway; they will make their home on North Fountain Street.

Mrs. Robert B. Oliver of Cape Girardeau has been re-elected state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
