Central Missouri State sank Southeast Missouri State University's hopes for basketball glory, as the Jennies trim the Otahkians 64-62 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional at Houck Field house; the disappointment follows on the heels of the Indians' tournament elimination in Amarillo, Texas, yesterday at the hands of Delta State 90-84.

BIEHLE, Mo. -- Buchheit's General Store is open in new quarters here; the 40,000-square-foot building replaces a structure destroyed by fire almost a year ago.

50 years ago: March 7, 1962

Matching statewide results, Cape Girardeau County voters yesterday gave solid backing to Amendment No. 1, a measure to retain a 2-cent gasoline tax increase and send half back to the cities and counties.

Preliminary work is being done looking to a possible recreation lake in the western part of Cape Girardeau County; if the project is worked out, the lake probably would have about 200 acres of water; the proposed location is west of Crump and east of Barks Chapel.

75 years ago: March 7, 1937

Repeating their performance of last year, the Jackson High Indians yesterday gained the right to represent the sixth region in the state high school basketball tournament at Columbia, Mo., by defeating the Central High Tigers in the championship game at Jackson 33-22; the College High Preps won third place in the tourney by defeating the Fruitland Greyhounds 19-10.

After having been gone on a southern trip since Jan. 6, Mr. and Mrs. H.K. Dean of Cape Girardeau return home; they saw the sights in Louisiana, Florida and Georgia.

100 years ago: March 7, 1912

The first step toward municipal water, light and gas plants will be taken tomorrow when an engineer will arrive to look over the grounds with a view of making plans and estimates for the complete system.

Sam Boutin has come home from Southern Florida where he has been spending the winter months.
