PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- A massive manhunt involving helicopters, roadblocks and dogs continues in and around St. Francois County as more than 100 law enforcement officers search for the suspected killer of a Missouri highway patrolman who originally was from Cape Girardeau; trooper James M. Froemsdorf, 35, of Perryville, was fatally shot Saturday night.
The Cape Girardeau City Council is considering moving forward with plans to install a new irrigation system at the municipal golf course at a cost of about $150,000; Mayor Howard C. Tooke, who has said he will vote against all capital improvements until the community's sewer problems are addressed, says "the timing is extremely bad."
