Air Illinois, the regional airline based at Carbondale, Ill., appears to be one of the fastest growing industries associated with Cape Girardeau; March has been a record-setting month for boardings and mileage for Air Illinois; as of April 25, Air Illinois will be Cape Girardeau's only regularly scheduled air carrier.

Two Cape Girardeau County Republicans have added their names to the growing list of candidates for county office; Jackson Alderman Sheron Brammer has filed for the post of county clerk, and Gordonville farmer Bill M. Propst is a candidate for County Court District 1 judge.

50 years ago: March 31, 1957

Two new additions to Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau are dedicated in the afternoon; the special service in the school auditorium marks the culmination of a $252,000 building program that added two modern wings with nine classrooms, an assembly room and a bowling alley.

In her third try for the honor, Anita Ammon, 14, of Fredericktown, Mo., spelled down 28 other contestants in the fifth annual Missourian Spelling Bee yesterday at Central Junior High School to capture first place in the contest.

75 years ago: March 31, 1932

The state and not counties should care for the mentally ill, declared Dr. M.A. Bliss of St. Louis, one of the speakers at the meeting sponsored by the Missouri Society of Mental Hygiene, at Teachers College last night; Bliss declared the county-care plan of paying the cost for mental patients has been out-grown.

Herman Bremermann, cashier of the First National Bank, has told a group of residents that, if they wish to place his name on the ballot for school director, he would serve if elected.

100 years ago: March 31, 1907

Easter Sunday.

The choir of the Presbyterian Church presents a beautiful program of music for Easter services, and the pastor, the Rev. A. Kistler, delivers a sermon on the resurrection.

A special Easter song service is held in the morning at Christ Episcopal Church; Mrs. W.C. Patton directs the choir; the group is composed of Patton, Marion Wrigley, Hazel Harrison, Mrs. Crew, Grace Colvin, Jean Hammett, I.E. Butler and C.C. Hawley.
