25 years ago: March 3, 1983

Broadway between Pacific and Lorimier streets is scheduled to revert to two-way traffic soon, but there are growing reservations about the change; C.A. Juden Jr. has presented a petition to the city council signed by more than 100 local residents who say they aren't convinced the change will be in the city's best interest.

The NCAA Division II postseason tournament bid that Southeast Missouri State so anxiously awaited last year came early this season, and with an added surprise: The Indians will host the South-Central Regional.

50 years ago: March 3, 1958

CAIRO, Ill. -- Gunmen hold up the El Patio Club north of Cairo early in the morning; a half-hour later, state police seize three men, some pistols and a cash box containing $1,505; it is the second time in a week a Cairo area nightclub has been robbed.

The taxpayers' suit to stop the flood-control program underway in the Main Street sector in Cape Girardeau reaches the motion-submission stage in Common Pleas Court; the motions, chief of which asks dismissal of the suit before it can be tried, are taken under advisement by Judge Robert G. Brady.

75 years ago: March 3, 1933

Workers are completing a new roof on the building at 33 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau owned by Louis Hecht and occupied by Scott Stores Inc.; this is the first new roof put on the structure since it was built 15 years ago by Sam Sherman.

"Eleanor Blue," named for Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt and to be worn by her at the presidential inaugural tomorrow, is featured in the dresses displayed in the window of Hecht's store; the blue is a soft shade, which combines especially well with gray.

100 years ago: March 3, 1908

The meeting of the Cape Girardeau City Council last evening was productive of two important matters: The appointment of Chris Betten as city clerk and the action of the council in failing to pay the waterworks bill for last month; the waterworks bill was refused because of hydrants that were out of repair from last October until recently.

F.H. Elfrank has opened a new harness shop at 610 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau; he is from Lutesville, Mo., where he was reared in the business.
