New owners of Central Foods in south Cape Girardeau took over the operation of the plant Thursday; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beutenmiller of Chesterfield, Mo., are the new owners; purchase of the company ended negotiations which began several weeks ago with the former owners, George Wrape and Earl Steele.

Approximately 400 exhibits are on display at the 10th District History Day contest at Southeast Missouri State University; exhibitors who receive a first-, second- or third-place rating will advance to the state contest April 17 at Excelsior Springs, Mo.

50 years ago: March 20, 1957

The United Cerebral Palsy Association of Southeast Missouri has voted to establish a Cerebral Palsy Development Center in Cape Girardeau to serve children afflicted with the neurological disorder.

Sheriff John Crites and deputy Gilbert C. Headricks complete an inspection of nursing homes in the county outside Cape Girardeau; their check, made in conformance with the directive from Gov. James T. Blair Jr., covered homes in Jackson, Burfordville, Pocahontas and Oak Ridge.

75 years ago: March 20, 1932

Fifty-one people have been added to the membership of Red Star Baptist Church during the past three weeks in revival services being conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W.E. Hicks, and assisted by Frank Adams, evangelistic singer.

Losing control of a motorcycle he had purchased just minutes before, Harold Brase, a young Cape Girardeau man, was painfully injured at Poplar Bluff, Mo., yesterday; the machine, moving down a grade at the time, left the street and struck a tree.

100 years ago: March 20, 1907

J.M. Temple, who recently bought the plumbing shop owned by the late M.A. Slavick, is moving it to the new building on Independence Street, opposite the Houck depot.

Cape Girardeau fire chief Arthur Leher has presented a list of names for appointment as firefighters to the city council; they include Louis Brinkopf, Fred Kassell, Barney Kraft, Harry Kage, Leo Frenzel, Charles Hahn, Herman Hillman and Frank Steimle; some time ago, all the firefighters resigned in a dispute with the council.
