The wife of Sen. Robert Dole declared yesterday that the race for the Republican presidential nomination was "clearly a two-man race" between her husband and Vice President George Bush; Elizabeth Dole spoke at a news conference at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport.

After arguments are waged for and against shifting athletic affiliation from Division II to Division 1, the Southeast Missouri State University Faculty Senate votes 16-9 against the proposal.

Representatives from four state highway departments, meeting yesterday at Kentucky Dam, Ky., to discuss the future path of Interstate 24, failed to reach agreement, but highway officials weren't surprised; the major purpose of the meeting was to hear a report from a private consulting firm which has been studying various routes for nearly a year.

Cape Girardeau Central, its fast-break working almost to perfection, stormed into High School Class L Sub-State basketball play with a rousing 70-51 triumph over Kennett, Mo., last night in the Dexter Regional Tournament final game.

L.H. Landgraf has purchased a site on West Independence Street, where he will locate a new firm known as the L.H. Landgraf Lumber Co.; he plans to construct two buildings to house the business, which is 150 feet east of the new Superior Electric factory building.

The latest round-up of public school children for smallpox vaccinations is underway and will conclude tomorrow; vaccinations are being given under the direction of the city board of health as a precaution against any chance of spread of the disease beyond a few cases of it now in the city.

Dr. and Mrs. G.S. Cannon of Fornfelt are among the Scott County people who will attend the inauguration of President-elect Woodrow Wilson Tuesday; Mrs. Cannon was formerly Miss Madden of Cape Girardeau.

The local lodge of the Elks gave a smoker and informal reception last night for the president and three members of the executive committee of the state association of Elks at its club rooms; about 200 members were present.
