Attorney Diane Howard becomes the first female Rotarian in Cape Girardeau, when she is inducted into the Cape West Rotary Club.

1963

St. James A.M.E. Church, 516 North St., is celebrating its 100th anniversary through March 24 with a number of events; today, Mrs. Thelma Hampton of Louisville, Ky., gives an organ recital; she is minister of music for the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and instructor of music in the Louisville schools.

Members of The Missourian's European tour arrived in London yesterday on the first leg of their 17-day trip; after a two-day visit, they will move on to Amsterdam for their first continental stop.

1938

In the storm-stricken rural Oak Ridge community, 30 men -- neighbors of those who were hardest hit by Tuesday's tornado -- go to work on the farms of Will and Henry Breckenridge to help then rebuild wrecked structures; the family of Will Breckenridge is staying at the Henry Breckenridge dwelling; the latter's house was spared, but other farm buildings were laid waste, while the Will Breckenridge family lost everything.

A Co-op Milk Producers Association has been formed at Gordonville; around 20 milk-producers in the area will be members; their whole milk will be taken to St. Louis daily in a refrigerated truck that Albert H. Macke will operate.

1913

The Elks will pull off a state convention here the last week of May, and then evangelist Lincoln McConnell will follow to clean up the town; Cape Girardeau is in need of a good "cleaning," according to a large number of residents, and the inimitable McConnell has been hired to do the job.

Machinery for the new creamery at Jackson has arrived and is being installed; the creamery should be ready for business about April 1.
