An approximately $24.9 million, five-year capital improvements plan was approved by the Cape Girardeau City Council last night, following a number of last-minute revisions, including the deletion of a proposed disaster warning system.
Carl B. Bidewell, a Poplar Bluff, Mo., stockbroker, and Daniel Williams Jr., director of corporate affairs for Anheuser Busch Inc., in St. Louis, are named to Southeast Missouri State University's Board of Regents.
Plans for construction of eight new homes and a seven-room addition at the Lorberg Funeral Home, 433 S. Sprigg St., were included in the 15 building permits issued the last two weeks by the city engineer.
Time clocks, placed in various business locations and to be "punched" by patrolling police officers during late night hours, are being installed by the city; the clocks will give police a better idea when a particular business location was last patrolled, in case of a burglary.
The observance of the 18th anniversary of the organization of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post at Jackson last night was attended by 153 Legionnaires at the Masonic Building; every available nook and corner of the first floor of the building was used to seat guests, again demonstrating the need for a community building in Jackson.
