Members of a local air traffic controllers union begin informational picketing at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport after their contract with the Federal Aviation Administration expired at midnight Saturday; similar picketing by members of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization begins at airports throughout the county.

KENNETT, Mo. -- Three men escape from the Dunklin County jail here; one surrenders to the sheriff about nine hours after the three overpower a sheriff's department dispatcher and flee; the other two are still at large.

Given encouragement by the state legal opinion that the ground can be turned over for development into a state park, a committee of Cape Girardeau County residents has redoubled its efforts to renew options on the wooded 3,000-acre tract of picturesque hill land north of Cape Girardeau; A.C. Brase, chairman of the committee, says every effort will be made to renew the options within the next week or 10 days.

E.H. Ruesler of Old Appleton, a Republican, files for the nomination for county judge from the first district; Ruesler is mayor of Old Appleton and operates a truck line.

The Rev. F.A. Whitley of Fornfelt preaches in the morning and evening at the Red Star Baptist Church in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. W.W. Hick, who is conducting a revival meeting at Rome, Texas.

John Dohogne of South Spanish Street receives word that a son, Charley Dohogne, was killed late yesterday when he fell from the crown of a tall smokestack at Kansas City, Mo., which he was painting.

100 years ago: March 15, 1906

Petitions are being circulated for Mercer D. Wilson for alderman in the First Ward, Will Bergmann in the Second, Frank F. Lincoln in the Third, and Harry Albert in the Fourth; these men were induced to run for seats on the Cape Girardeau Board of Aldermen by those attending the recent citizens' caucus.

After an illness of a week's duration, Sarah Juden, 59, wife of Charles G. Juden, dies in the morning; she had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. L.J. Albert Jr., of South Lorimier Street; she reared a large number of estimable children, including William, Charles, Wash, Joseph, Mrs. Albert, Mrs. Sleeper of Iowa and Mrs. Thomas Lilly of Cape Girardeau.
