For the first time since 1925, and for the third time in history, the Central High School Tigers wear the crown of the district high school basketball tournament champions; they gained the honor with a 24-16 victory over the Dexter High Bearcats in the tournament finals Saturday in Houck Field House.
The Rev. R. Lehmann, pastor of Christ Evangelical Church for 16 1/2 years and dean of the ministers of Cape Girardeau, has accepted a call to an Evangelical church on the edge of Evansville, Ind.
100 years ago: March 12, 1909
The 60 Woodmen of the World who were guests at the Hotel Idan-ha were an appreciative lot, as they sent back a card from Union Station in St. Louis to Mrs. Petermann, the landlady of the new hotel, announcing their safe arrival; Petermann has splendid help in the kitchen and dining rooms, and two accommodating clerks, her son, Maple Petermann, and Ben Obermiller.
Despite last year's after-season baseball talk of a new ballpark on level land and a grandstand close to the diamond, not a word has been heard about staging the game here this summer.
