Hundreds of gallons of concentrated chlorine spilling from drain at Capaha Park swimming pool was responsible for killing hundreds of fish last week in park's lagoon; after workers collecting dead fish from lagoon's banks reported chlorine smell, water drain was checked for leaks.
Fearing new trades licensing ordinance might put some contractors out of work, city's Board of Examiners discusses possibility of adding another construction trade to licensing agreement; board, which is ironing out details of licensing law, suggests separate license be granted to drainlayers.

AMVETS Post 92 of Cape Girardeau will have a dedication Feb. 12 at Post Home, 429 Broadview, when group will be named for former Cape Girardeau veteran; James B. Phillips, who moved from here in 1950 and now resides in Jackson, Miss., will be special guest at dedication when post is named in his honor.
Eagle Board of Review for Southeast Missouri Boy Scout Council has announced that nine Scouts have passed Board of Review for Scouting's highest rank of Eagle: David Letassy, Tom Hoga and John Casey, all of Poplar Bluff; Kenneth Heise of Cape Girardeau; Samuel Hopkins and Scott Ash of Marble Hill-Lutesville, and Jeff Schwab, Rick Wright and Tim Gilmore, all of Sikeston.
50 years ago: Feb. 5, 1952
Coast Guard boat is dragging river floor and diver is searching area of Mississippi River opposite South St. Louis for Harry E. Leach, 62, of Cape Girardeau, who has been missing since Saturday night.
Paul Edwards, terminal manager for St. Marys Truck Lines, active participant in service club work and half-dozen community-wide drives, has been given Junior Chamber of Commerce distinguished service award key for 1951.
75 years ago: Feb. 5, 1927
Actual construction work on Cape Girardeau traffic bridge across Mississippi River is under way; force of men, under direction of Superintendent W.J. Duffy of U.G.I. Construction Co., is excavating at end of Morgan Oak street for 98-foot pier, from which first long span of bridge will be swung.
Taps have sounded for another member of rapidly thinning ranks of Civil War veterans in Cape Girardeau County; George Reisenbichler, 87, one of last three surviving members of Cape Girardeau and Scott County company that was with Sherman on his famous march to sea, died yesterday at home of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Landgraf of Cape Girardeau.
