Lt. Wayne Goddard, football coach at State College and training officer of 129th Naval Reserve Division, receives orders directing him to report to St. Louis this weekend for physical examination prior to recall to active Navy duty; orders provide that he report to San Francisco port of embarkation 30 days after completion of physical for transportation to Guam for assignment.

Bloodmobile crew from St. Louis, assisted by local doctors and about 30 workers from Cape Girardeau County Chapter, National Red Cross, begin receiving donations of blood in basement of First Baptist Church.

75 years ago: Feb. 4, 1927

Real estate values in Cape Girardeau have increased from 10 to 20 percent in past few months since it became certainty that traffic bridge would be built, while unprecedented building activity for this year is predicted.

Fred A. Groves announces he has bought beautiful home on College Hill, known as Shackelford house, and as soon as extensive improvements are made, he and his family will occupy it; Groves found it necessary to seek new house when his mother-in-law, Mrs. R.L. Wilson, sold her home at corner of Broadway and Fountain to syndicate which will build Harrison hotel on site.
