25 years ago: Feb. 25, 1987

The city's Golf Course Advisory Board is considering recommending a hike in golf fees at the municipal course; any fee proposal would have to be submitted to the City Council for a decision as to whether or not to place such a measure on the election ballot.

Southeast Missouri State University women's basketball coach Ed Arnzen is happy to see Sandy Heitschmidt named to the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association all-conference first team, but the fact that Pat Colon is left off the team has Arnzen seeing red.

50 years ago: Feb. 25, 1962

The Rev. William C. Emerson has resigned his pastorate at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Crosstown, Mo., and accepted a call to the Fairview Baptist Church near Bonne Terre, Mo.; Emerson presently is vice-moderator of the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association.

Advance High hopes to stop the rampaging Richland Rebels, Cinderella high school basketball team of Southeast Missouri, as the two prepare to meet in the Class "M" sub-state game at Houck Field House Monday night; Advance trimmed Chaffee, 56-53, to advance in the tournament, while Richland routed Puxico, 62-49.

75 years ago: Feb. 25, 1937

Nursery schools, which have operated at intervals in South Cape Girardeau for nearly three years, won't be re-opened as a WPA project; if the schools serving the city's southside children come back at all, they will have to be on a permanent basis and handled as a school district project.

The board of the Kage School district, immediately west of Cape Girardeau, is looking into the possibility of building a new school; the present structure is 54 years old and doesn't meet state requirements.

100 years ago: Feb. 25, 1912

The Rev. A. Wilder of Cape Girardeau, the Rev. A. Bernthal of Hanover, and the Rev. George Meyer of Egypt Mills attended the conference of Lutheran Churches held Thursday and Friday at Illmo.

Several of those living along Jackson Route 3 are making maple syrup since the warm days have come; they are Jim and Dick Houck, Orsie and Willie Wilkinson, Tom Godman, John Schuette and E.T. Miller.
