Cape Girardeau officials yesterday sent telegrams to state and federal highway leaders pledging support of recommendations by a consulting firm to bring Interstate 24 across the Mississippi River at Thebes, Ill.; the two alternate plans for terminating I-24 are to intersect the route with Interstate 57 at either Cairo, Ill., or Marion, Ill.; I-24 is intended to connect St. Louis and Nashville, Tenn.

Kermit Meystedt broke the school's individual scoring record last night with 47 points as Cape Girardeau Central High School ran over visiting Farmington High School, 98-53; the old record of 43 was set by Walt Grebing in 1958 against Poplar Bluff, Mo., in the semifinals of the regionals.

With Mrs. Emily M. Lautz, a Southwest Missouri resident, as the food specialist in charge, The Missourian's twelfth annual cooking school opens at the Broadway Theater with a large crowd; the school will continue through Friday.

L.W. Simmons is forming a new abstract company here; Simmons, president of the Surety Savings & Loan Association, says definite organization plans haven't been completed.

1913

Judge Sam M. Green, a pioneer citizen of Cape Girardeau County, died at the home of his children in St. Louis yesterday; he had been in failing health for about seven years and the death of his wife in September was a crushing blow to him; Green was born near Pocahontas.

At a meeting of the Cape Girardeau Commercial Club last night, a petition was read from the residents of Toga, Mo., a small place on the Hoxie Branch of the Frisco, asking the club endeavor to have the accommodation passenger train make stops there; residents of Toga now must go two miles to Advance, Mo., to catch trains to Cape Girardeau.
