25 years ago: Feb. 21, 1987

More than 400 people from throughout the state turned out last night to pay tribute to Gene E. Huckstep, as Saint Francis Medical Center dedicated its newly remodeled and enlarged emergency services department named in his honor.

Hilary F. Schmittzehe of Cape Girardeau has been elected supreme master of the Knights of Columbus, an international leadership position with the Catholic family fraternal society.

50 years ago: Feb. 21, 1962

About 10,000 4-cent postage stamps commemorating yesterday's space triumph go on sale at the Cape Girardeau post office; but postmaster T.R. Regenhardt predicts they won't last the day, and he plans to order more.

Cape Girardeau's first Brotherhood Week banquet is held in the evening at the Arena Building; guest speaker for the event, attended by 288 men, is Russell L. Dearmont.

75 years ago: Feb. 21, 1937

The Rev. Ira D. Crewdson, pastor of First Christian Church, delivers the first of a series of lectures on world fellowship studies of Africa; the service takes the place of the regular evening sermon and is in the nature of a forum, with several people taking part.

First Baptist Church has full use of its building for the first time in a month; the flood refugees have been evacuated from the facility.

100 years ago: Feb. 21, 1912

Cape Girardeau was visited by an odd combination of severe weather yesterday, several electrical storms in the afternoon interspersed with a raging snow blizzard.

A.H. Mueller sells his Main Street meat shop fixtures to McNew & Jahns of Bloomfield, Mo., who move the outfit to that town; the Bloomfield firm was victim of the disastrous fire which swept away nearly all the business portion of the town Sunday; Mueller still operates meat shops on Broadway and Good Hope Street.
