Speaking at a Black History Month event yesterday, Krista Stevens challenged the Southeast Missouri State University administration to address a "racism" problem on the campus; she was one of several people who addressed the crowd of close to 100 people at Academic auditorium.

The dispute over conflicting annexation plans of Cape Girardeau and Jackson is resolved as a result of action taken by the Jackson Board of Aldermen; the board votes unanimously to drop from its plan the two areas in conflict with Cape Girardeau's annexation plan.

1964

Pouring concrete sidewalks in subfreezing temperatures at Alma Schrader School five years ago is being blamed for the deterioration of the walks that has begun; a similar condition has appeared in a sidewalk at Jefferson School.

More than 300 people attend the third annual Brotherhood Week dinner at the Arena Building in the evening; speaker for the event is Dr. Thomas A. Brady, dean of extra-divisional administration at the University of Missouri.

1939

Apparently lost in the fog and rain and becoming separated from its squadron as the radio beam failed, a large Army bomber made a forced landing in a soggy pasture Sunday morning on the farm of Burton Seabaugh, six miles northeast of Jackson; the plane was en route from Fort Riley, Kan., to Scott Field, Ill.; a low gasoline supply caused the landing; later, after considerable effort, the plane took off from the sodden field and headed into a driving rain for the Illinois field.

Home economist Emily M. Lautz arrives in Cape Girardeau, where she will be the guest demonstrator at the 13th annual Missourian Cooking School, which begins tomorrow at the Broadway Theater.

1914

Assistant U.S. District Attorney Charles H. Daues will be appointed first assistant city counselor by St. Louis Mayor Henry Kiel to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Elmer E. Pearcy; Daues, a former Cape Girardeau lawyer, is a cousin of Kiel.

Byrd Oliver comes down by train from his farm near Neelys Landing to spend a few days with home folks.
