On the eve of a conference between county and city officials on where to house the Social Security relief office, it is revealed that the Cape Girardeau School Board has, at least tentatively, rejected a suggestion that the abandoned Broadway School building be used; it has been decided to move the staff from the present quarters on Water Street, which are inadequate, but unless a building is found here, the office will be transferred to Jackson.
Three hundred people in Cape Girardeau County are awaiting their first jobless insurance checks from the Missouri Unemployment Commission, following approval of their claims by the local office; the maximum any unemployed worker can receive is $25 per month.
The body of the late Harlan P. Pieronnet, Cape Girardeau merchant, was disinterred yesterday morning and early in the afternoon placed in one of the eight catacombs of the magnificent mausoleum erected by his widow on the family plot in the west end of the cemetery.
