A two-hour meeting last night at Cape Girardeau City Hall was used by street and sewer contractors to air concerns, complaints and suggestions regarding the activities of the city's engineering department with the City Council; most complaints centered around city inspections and street and sewer specifications.

The Cape Girardeau City Council, which recently expressed interest in selling 83 acres of farm land near Dutchtown that had once been considered as a future landfill site, is now looking at the possibility of using that land for the disposal of sludge from the wastewater treatment plant.

50 years ago: Feb. 18, 1962

In an afternoon ceremony at State College auditorium, 84 Boy Scouts from all parts of Southeast Missouri receive their Eagle ranks, symbolizing Scouting's highest achievement; sponsor of the class is Richard H. Amberg.

The Jackson Industrial Development Corp. recently purchased nearly 16 acres of land from the Meier brothers -- Charles N., Wilbert E. and Ervin Meier -- for future expansion of industry in Jackson.

75 years ago: Feb. 18, 1937

A pergola in the lagoon at Fairground Park, to take the place of the Community Clubhouse, which was destroyed by fire a week ago, has been suggested again, according to City Commissioner L.H. Butler, head of the park department.

Construction of a building to house the Jewish synagogue and Hebrew school here is being considered by members of the congregation; since 1932 until last Thursday, when the building was ruined by fire, the services and weekly school sessions have been conducted at the Community Clubhouse in Fairground Park; nothing definite has been decided, but several possible building sites have been viewed.

100 years ago: Feb. 18, 1912

The Rev. Frank Y. Campbell, late of Sedalia, Mo., begins his work as pastor of the First Baptist Church here; he was born in Illinois, but has been a resident of Missouri 25 years.

Under the auspices of the Kimmich Orchestra, the Cape Girardeau minstrels entertain the people of Illmo, Fornfelt, Ancell and Thebes, Ill., at Illmo; the minstrels number 30 strong and are under the direction of Professor Rowden.
