50 years ago: Feb. 10, 1960

A suggestion being studied by the Cape Girardeau School Board that would see all seventh-grade public school pupils transferred to Lorimier School was presented to the executive committee of the Lorimier Parent-Teacher Unit on Tuesday; the temporary move would relieve congestion at Central High School.

High winds that roared across numerous Southeast Missouri counties for hours last night wrecked a few scattered buildings and interrupted power service temporarily in various communities.

75 years ago: Feb. 10, 1935

Two teams from the intercollegiate debate squad of the Teachers College return from the annual Missouri college debate tournament held at Missouri Valley College at Marshall; Mary Virginia Johnson, Eloise Wehner and Hazel L. Morse received a silver cup for winning first place in the women's division; taking second place in the junior tournament were Rush Limbaugh Jr., Garland Parker, William Settle and Arthur Wichmann.

The county superintendent of schools, Otto C. Kiehne, yesterday mailed questionaires asking whether school districts of the county have work to be done under Federal Emergency Relief Administration.

100 years ago: Feb. 10, 1910

The Cape Girardeau Provident Association needs clothing and school books for a number of poor children who are unable to attend school owing to the poverty of their parents.

At a meeting of the Cape Girardeau Commercial Club, the committee appointed to look into the Saint Francis Hospital question explains a plan to raise the money needed to replace the present facility with a modern hospital; the committee proposes to sell 1,000 certificates at $20 each; the holders of the certificates would be allowed service at the hospital for that amount.
