A former Cape Girardeau Central High School coach is headed back to the gridiron; the school board announced yesterday that Gary Lynch, athletic director for the public schools since 1976 and Central football coach, will take over those duties again next fall.

Plans for a $60 million manufacturing plant and another project estimated to cost between $6.5 and $8 million are expected to be announced soon by the Southeast Missouri Regional Port authority; the smaller project may get underway in May.

50 years ago: Feb. 10, 1957

The old quarry at the southwest corner of Rockwood Drive and Henderson Avenue in Cape Girardeau, from which came most of the stone for construction of Academic Hall, will soon be filled and converted into a State College parking lot; all property owners in the area have been contacted and are agreeable to the plan.

Boy Scouts and Cub scouts throughout Cape Girardeau attend church services in groups -- troops and packs.

75 years ago: Feb. 10, 1932

Cape Girardeau's new fire truck arrives, but not even a fireman is permitted a glimpse; it is resting in a box car until officials of the American-LaFrance & Foamite Industries Inc., manufactures of the truck, arrive to test the new equipment.

Roy Cain announces he has leased the Mid-Continent Oil Co. filling station at North Sprigg and Themis streets; the station was formerly leased by Olin Kaiser; Cain formerly was in charge of the Mid-Continent station at West Broadway and Perry Avenue, which is now operated by Lloyd Statler.

100 years ago: Feb. 10, 1907

The Rev. U.G. Robinson, state superintendent of the Anti-Saloon League, preaches three sermons during the day; he preaches at the Methodist Church in the morning, at a union meeting of Protestant churches at the Presbyterian Church in the afternoon, and again at a union meeting in the evening at the Baptist Church.

The city of Oran, Mo., is "dry" for the first time since 1890, when the county had local option; the cause of the saloons closing now is in failing to get the required number of signers for petitions.
