Promoters of Aviation Days, which will feature the Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team and other performances, say at least 30,000 people are expected to attend the Sept. 10 and 11 event at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport.

Peter Wall says all that remains for him to become the new tennis coach at Southeast Missouri State University is his signature on the contract, and that will come later this week; Wall, a graduate assistant two years ago, replaces Leo Vorwerk.

Mary Helen Flentge, assistant dean of students for women, reports State College has had "a very good response" to its urgent appeal to townspeople to make rooms available for young women students entering the fall term.

Improved telephone service to the northeast section of town, including facilities which will open private line service to the area, will result from a $51,000 program announced by the Cape Girardeau office of the telephone company; the program will involve placing 700 feet of underground cable and 21,000 feet of aerial cable.

Dr. W.W. Parker, new president of the Teachers College, arrived here last night; Mrs. Parker and their children are expected Thursday afternoon.

Around 2,000 people attend the Southeast Missouri firefighters' school program in the evening; firefighters performed ladder and hose evolutions, rope sliding, net jumping and rescue feats, drawing applause from the crowd; preceding the program, Cape Girardeau fireman Roy Smith is awarded the National Safety Council's "Presidential Metal" for successfully reviving a victim of carbon monoxide gas.

100 years ago: Aug. 16, 1908

Mr. and Mrs. John Herbst, living on West Broadway, celebrate the christening of their infant daughter, Marie, all day, and fully 50 friends and relatives attend the festivities; the young lady is given a joyous start on life's voyage.

Dr. Frank M. Williams, dentist, has removed with his family from Bloomfield, Mo., to Cape Girardeau to practice his profession; he was born and raised at Jackson and has a host of friends there.
