Members of Cape Girardeau's multipurpose building advisory committee are confident the full Missouri Senate and House will authorize the sale of $225 million in capital improvement bonds now that the Senate's Budget Control Committee has given its OK to the sale.
Jerry L. Goin, immediate past president of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees, has been elected personnel vice president of the Missouri Jaycees.

Another move toward construction of a women's dormitory which will house 408 students is announced by State College; proposals will be received May 22 for purchase and removal of two buildings on the site of the proposed dormitory; one of the buildings is a residence at 920 College Hill, acquired about two years ago from Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Kurka; the other is the home at 936 College Hill, purchased at the same time from Col. and Mrs. Joseph Russell.
Remodeling and redecorating of the third floor at Saint Francis Hospital is well underway, with work on the nursery expected to be completed within the next few days.
75 years ago: May 14, 1933
Flooding the worst since 1909, Apple Creek sweeps along Cape Girardeau and Perry county lowlands, cutting a path of destruction; part of Appleton, Mo., is inundated, and a force of workers toils to remove flour and mill feeds to higher ground as the mill there floods.
Discovery of a flood-damaged section of the Frisco main line track near Menfro, Mo., 43 miles north of Cape Girardeau, early today averts a possible wreck of the fast passenger train, due at that point two hours later; train service is disrupted seven hours until repairs of the embankment are made.
100 years ago: May 14, 1908
For several days, contractors and engineers from several cities have been in Cape Girardeau figuring on the sewer system, the contract for which will be let by the city council next week.
Jackson Mayor Robert W. Russell has been ordered by the St. Louis Court of Appeals to sign the saloon license of Conrad Schade; Russell had refused to sign the six-month license, even though the board of aldermen had granted it.
