Incumbent Patrick Ruopp and two other Cape Girardeau residents file as candidates for the Cape Girardeau Board of Education; filing besides Ruopp are Jacklyn "Jackie" Clark and Dr. Robert G. Fox, a dentist.

A petition signed by 2,160 people in protest of this Friday's rock concert by Alice Cooper, and any future similar shows at the Show Me Center, was presented to the building's manager yesterday; the petition effort was spearheaded by First Assembly of God Church.

1962

Recently commissioned second lieutenants in First Battle Group units of the National Guard received their bars this past week; Col. Narvol A. Randol, commanding officer, presented bars to Robert Isaacs, Stanley Beggs of Jackson and Donald Sievers and Richard Wood of Farmington, Mo.

Linus W. Bartels of Cape Girardeau is installed as governor of the Missouri-Arkansas District of Kiwanis International in ceremonies at the midwinter conference at Springfield, Mo.

1937

J.H. Metzler, proprietor of a shoe and leather goods repair shop at 514 Broadway, winds up 25 years in business in Cape Girardeau; Metzler started business Dec. 9, 1912, coming here from Oklahoma.

J.D. Stewart of Cape Girardeau is having a new theater building constructed at McClure, Ill., which should be opening within a few weeks; the frame structure will be used as a motion picture show house; Herbert Kirby of Cape Girardeau is the general contractor, and Joe Sandman, also of this city, is doing the metal work.

Those who pulled their blankets up around their noses last night had cause to, as the temperature fell to 12 degrees above zero.

The Houck railroad is doing a fine passenger business between Cape Girardeau and Ancell; three round trips are made each day, and there are always quite a number of passengers.
