Retired Cape Girardeau businessman William M. Bryan files as a candidate for the City Council; he is the fifth person to file for a seat on the council.

Kenrick Burrough, the last surviving member of a family that figured prominently in Cape Girardeau's legal and social life, dies at a local hospital, where he had been a patient for almost three years; his parents were the late Judge and Mrs. Frank E. Burrough, and their family home, now 101 years old, was at 2121 Bloomfield Road.

As a gala start to the holiday season, The Southeast Missourian will open its 14th annual Art Exhibition this evening to the public; the 1960 show includes 130 pieces done, in the main, by amateurs from the Southeast Missouri district.

75 years ago: Dec. 3, 1935

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A proposal to change the course of the Black River to run east from a point north of Poplar Bluff to Cape Girardeau will be discussed at a public hearing to be held here Jan. 14; Poplar Bluff Mayor J.C. Allen says every effort will be made to block such a move on the part of Army engineers.

The customary organ music was absent from yesterday's services at Centenary Methodist Church, as the instrument's key went missing; a locksmith is called in today to install a new lock.

100 years ago: Dec. 3, 1910

According to the 13th federal census, Jackson has a population of 2,105, a gain of 447 residents since the 1900 census.

Louis Kies and family of near Jackson are visiting his parents, who reside on South Lorimier Street; he is also here to visit his sister, Mrs. C.P. Van Amburg.
