A proposed birth-control clinic in Cape Girardeau which would offer abortion on demand, something not now available in this area, is creating a great deal of controversy months before its anticipated opening; Regency Park Gynecological Center will open a clinic at 891 N. Kingshighway.

Curt S. Smith, a Procter and Gamble company manager, is the 14th person to file for one of six seats on the new Cape Girardeau City Council.

50 years ago: Dec. 3, 1956

Reconstruction and relocation of burned-out terminal facilities at the municipal airport under a three-way participation program from airport, city and federal funds are approved by the Municipal Airport Board and the Cape Girardeau City Council; city engineer John R. Walter will be asked to draft plans for a rectangular building built of concrete or hadite blocks with built-up roof, slab floor covered with asphalt tile and steel or aluminum windows.

Albert "Red" Schoendienst is scheduled to speak tomorrow night at a meeting of the Knights of Columbus St. Vincent's Council 1111 at the KC Hall.

75 years ago: Dec. 3, 1931

A four-way investigation is ongoing to establish ownership of a big moonshine liquor still located late Tuesday off Highway 34 in the east edge of Bollinger County; officers of Bollinger and Cape Girardeau counties, Cape Girardeau police and prohibition agents are taking part in the investigation.

Contractor Linus Penzel expects to finish pouring the concrete floor on the Old Appleton highway bridge tomorrow; Knox & Son, who have the contract for grading the approaches, have finished that work and also the rip-rap work on the sides of the abutments.

100 years ago: Dec. 3, 1906

Wash Juden left Cape Girardeau yesterday for Old Mexico, where he has accepted a job with the Red Rabbit Mining Co.; he will work in gold mines about 500 miles south of Mexico City.

Ninth-grade pupils of Cape Girardeau's high school give a Mendelssohn music program in the afternoon, which is well attended by parents and friends; the class numbers 22, of which Werner Mueller is president and Chloe Kassel is secretary.
