The Rev. W. Harry Hunt has been named pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church of Jackson; Hunt and his wife were recently honored for their 13 years of ministry to members of First Baptist and the Jackson community.
For the first time, Christ Episcopal Church congregation and members of St. Mark Lutheran Church (ALC) will observe the Epiphany season with a joint communion celebration Jan. 5 at St. Mark; Steve J. Bergmann, rector of Christ Church, and the Rev. Richard Johnson, pastor of St. Mark, will both be present at the altar for the service.
The Cape Catholic Bulldogs and the Morley, Mo., Bears will open play this afternoon in the first round of four games of the State College Preps' 13 annual invitational basketball tournament at Houck Field House; 16 schools will compete in the tournament, including last year's defending champions, the Advance Hornets.

Coach and Mrs. Emmett R. Stuber and small daughter have moved from 825 North St. into the Owen Apartments at 215 N. Ellis St.; they moved here in September from Fulton, Mo., when he was appointed coach of athletics at Teachers College.
R.B. Oliver, counsel for the Sikeston, Mo., brothers who were convicted in federal court in the now famous peonage case, appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington last week; Oliver is hopeful the court will take up the case.
The news agent on the Gulf train has been arrested at Morehouse, Mo., on a charge of bootlegging; he was under suspicion for some time and was finally caught in the act of selling bottles of whiskey at different train stations.
