1987

A Collinsville, Ill., truck driver escapes serious injury when the semitruck he is driving is struck by a westbound Cotton Belt train in Scott City; he was apparently attempting to cross the tracks by driving around the lowered crossing gates to get to the nearby Wetterau Foods warehouse.

Lifestyles Unlimited in West Park Mall will remain open, Saint Francis Medical Center announces; an earlier decision to close the service was re-evaluated by the center's board of directors; Lifestyles Unlimited provides free health care information to the public.

1962

The Rev. David M. Hogan, former Assembly of God pastor of the Anchorage Tabernacle and presbyter of the central section of Alaska, is guest speaker at Bethel Assembly of God Church.

The 45-voice Central Methodist Church Choir presents "The Messiah" by George Frederick Handel in the afternoon in the church sanctuary; the choir is under the direction of Doyle A. Dumas of the State College Music Department; organist is Dr. Dan Cotner.

1937

A heavy fog blanket enveloped Southeast Missouri last night and this morning, hampering traffic and causing a number of accidents, none of which was fatal; the fog extended from St. Louis south into Arkansas.

Increases in the price of coal to consumers go into effect, as the result of a new price schedule set by the National Bituminous Commission; although local dealers, knowing high rates were coming, attempted to lay in a big supply at the old prices at the mine, they were unable to do so; the mines withheld shipments, claiming they couldn't fill the demands.

The Roberts, Johnson & Rand Shoe Co.'s Cape Girardeau branch of the International Shoe Co. is closing out its most successful year; out of the total output of $14,000,000 of shoes made by International during the year, $1,927,632.37 worth of that total was made by the Cape Girardeau plant.

Dr. E.C. Kimbro, dentist from Anna, Ill., has bought out the business of Dr. C.E. Schuchert on Broadway and will open up his office this week.
