Fire and smoke causes heavy damage at Sunset Motor Co., 2119 Broadway, early in evening; firefighters from Stations No. 1 and 2 battle flames for nearly two hours before bringing them under control.

Missouri cotton growers, concentrated in lower counties of district, vote overwhelmingly for marketing quotas on 1954 crop and thereby approve continuance of price supports at 90 percent of parity.

Rouse Construction Co. of Cape Girardeau was low bidder among 11 other firms for construction of pavement on 9 1/4-mile strip of Highway 61, from end of pavement south of Cape Girardeau to William Creek bridge, three miles east of Jackson.

L.C. Blattner has been re-elected president of Cape Girardeau County Fair Association; J.A. Rigdon was elected vice-president; W.F.D. Batjer was re-elected secretary, and Herman Bremmerman was again made treasurer.
