Scott City - Scott City Mayor Shirley Young said Tuesday she won't seek re-election to second term; after 10 years in city government, Young said she's ready to retire.
For third Cape Girardeau City Council election in eight years, eligibility of candidate has come into question; but this time candidate will be excluded from race; City Attorney Warren Wells and City Manager J. Ronald Fischer have determined that council candidate Jess Hopple isn't eligible to run for one of three council terms that will expire in April.

After career of 35 years with Federal Aviation Agency, John G. Seay of Cape Girardeau has retired; he was honored Friday at FAA flight service station at Municipal Airport; he was presented 35-year service pin by Vance Combs, chief of flight service.

In effort to provide more space for Christmas shopping, City Council places two-hour parking limitation in three non-metered sections in Main Street business area; sections are South Main, from Independence to William; Water, from Broadway to Independence, and Spanish, from Broadway to Themis.
Amid mounting interest among Democratic politicians over prospective candidates, Gov. Forrest Smith sets Jan. 8 as date for special election to fill state Senate seat made vacant in Scott, Mississippi and Cape Girardeau counties by resignation last week of Sen. D.W. Gilmore of Benton.

Four municipal Christmas trees for Cape Girardeau children will be sponsored this year by Retail Merchants Bureau of Chamber of Commerce; it is planned to have trees at Washington, May Greene, Central High and Cobb schools; at each site, gifts will be given to children on night of Dec. 23.
Series of five meetings to encourage strawberry and fruit growing in Cape Girardeau County will be held during January, under auspices of Cape Girardeau Fruit Growers Association.
