75 years ago: Dec. 10, 1934

Establishment of a fish hatchery in Cape Girardeau County will be sought by the Louis K. Juden post of the American Legion; Mike Shaltupsky has been named chairman of a committee to investigate the suggestion.

Members of the St. Paul Lutheran congregation, in a special session yesterday, decided to proceed with the construction of a new parochial school building in Jackson; it will be on the lot where the old school building now stands.

100 years ago: Dec. 10, 1909

For the purpose of filling the vacancies in the second and third wards, caused by the resignations of A. Brunkhorst and George Meyer, Mayor Pro Tem J.T. Juden has issued a proclamation for a special election to be held Dec. 21.

Normal School president W.S. Dearmont announces at the chapel hour a special course in agriculture will be offered by professor Cockefair to young farmers who can only attend school a portion of the winter; the six-week course will begin Jan. 4.
