Jim and Caroline Tilghman have purchased Medical Arts Pharmacy Inc., 937 Broadway, from its founder, Kenneth Mehrle; Jim Tilghman went to work for the pharmacy as a part-time delivery man 26 years ago.

An agreement between the city of Cape Girardeau and C. Andy Juden Jr. of Cape Girardeau has enabled the city police department to use land owned by Juden for firearms training, qualification and testing; the force has been without a firing range for the past five years; the new range is just west of the city limits.

50 years ago: Nov. 9, 1961

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- There's an air of excitement here as the whole town turns out for the celebration of the 100th birthday of one of its most honored residents, S.P. Reynolds; nearly every resident has arranged his schedule to be free for some part of the observance -- the noon luncheon, the formal dedication of Reynolds Park in the afternoon or the concluding reception.

Cape Girardeau's 1961 tax receipts have caught up with those of 1960 with an October income of $360,578.87, some $120,000 more than was collected in October last year.

75 years ago: Nov. 9, 1936

President W.W. Parker of State College, head of the Missouri State Teachers Association, goes to Kansas City to make final preparations for the opening of the 74th annual convention of the association, which will be in session there Wednesday through Saturday; one of the important things to be considered at the convention will be a state constitutional amendment, giving authority to the state Legislature to establish a retirement fund for teachers.

Brickwork has been started on the 1 1/2-story, seven-room residence being built at 239 N. Henderson Ave., for Dennis Scivally; contractors are J.A. Vasterling, Fred Mehrle and Louis Schott.

100 years ago: Nov. 9, 1911

Representatives of the manufacturers of Martell automatic instantaneous water heater are looking over Cape Girardeau with a view of locating their manufacturing plant here.

Councilman J.T. Wilson of the First Ward recently offered a resolution to the City Council for an ordinance to establish a curfew in Cape Girardeau; the resolution was adopted, and the judiciary committee will draft the ordinance.
