Earl and Ruth Norman have bought a home, but instead of moving into the century-old cabin, they plan to move it onto their property; the two-story cabin is located near Mount Tabor Park behind the Cerebral Palsy Center on what was once the original Campster property; they will move the cabin about three miles onto their property and restore it.

Dr. James H. Hamby, 55, a member of the Southeast Missouri State University faculty for 28 years, dies after collapsing while he addressed a university faculty workshop at the Drury Lodge.

50 years ago: Nov. 8, 1961

Cape Girardeau druggists and physicians are feeling the squeeze of a flu vaccine shortage which is described as nationwide; the Missouri Division of Health and the U.S. Public Health Service both forecast a high incidence of the flu virus this winter.

The fate of United Way in Cape Girardeau -- continuance or abandonment -- may be decided at a meeting tomorrow evening of the board and any interested residents; officials say the continuing inability of the community to meet the United Fund goal over a period of years has placed the program in crisis.

75 years ago: Nov. 8, 1936

The Rev. Cecil Franks of Hayti, Mo., is the speaker at both services at Red Star Baptist Church; the congregation hasn't as yet extended a definite call for a pastor, but different ministers are being invited to occupy the pulpit.

Fifty members of the Louis K. Juden Post and the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion attend the annual 14th District meeting at Caruthersville, Mo.

100 years ago: Nov. 8, 1911

ST. LOUIS -- The rumor here is that U.S. Marshal Edward F. Regenhardt is to be named the new warden of the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas.

I.R. Kelso is down in the Butler County lowlands, walking over the proposed lines for the new levee district along the St. Francois River; one of his law partners, Julien Miller, was to have accompanied him, but his physical build barred him.
