The Cape Girardeau City Council has turned down a request by Saint Francis Medical Center officials for a variance to the plumbing code that would have allowed the hospital to construct its planned outpatient service building over an existing clay sewer pipe.
Southeast Missouri State University has been given permission by the city council to widen a portion of Sprigg Street through the addition of a nine-foot lane on the west side of the road between New Madrid Street and the entrance to Towers parking lot.
