The nearly defunct John L. Wescoat Marina in Trial of Tears State Park will get a new lease on life if plans to clean out its silted-in harbor are successful; the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to spend $250,000 on the marina to make it usable.

Christ Foeste, 71, for 49 years a government light tender on the Mississippi River, is drowned early in the day in the river 10 miles south of Cape Girardeau near Bainbridge, when waves, whipped by high wind, capsize his boat; his grandson, Claude Foeste, and another youth, Wilbur Ervin, are rescued from the water by Garrett Niedling.
The Rev. and Mrs. Horace Siberell have come home; he has been preaching at Jacksonville, Ky., for the past year, but he and Mrs. Siberell always call Cape Girardeau "home," no matter where they may be located.
Because of the street paving work going on down on Spanish Street, the trolley cars can't use that part of the line; in consequence, only a half-car service is being given over the belt line; it is hoped that this job will soon be finished and that things can move along normally again.
