St. Mary Cathedral Parish is holding its annual Forty Hours devotion this weekend; the devotion opened Friday evening with Mass and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; prayers and adoration conclude this evening, with the Rev. Stephen Schneider, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, as guest speaker.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Dr. Oswald Hoffman, Lutheran Hour speaker, discusses "Go and Tell" at a Lutheran Hour Rally at the Perryville Junior High School; featured at the rally is a large choir of adults and children.

Six new cartoon strips will be added to The Missourian's funny pages Monday: "Andy Capp," "Dick Tracy," "Little Orphan Annie," "Gasoline Alley," "Terry and the Pirates" and "Blondie;" old favorites will continue: "Major Hoople," "Out Our Way," "Captain Easy," "Alley Oop," "Li'l Abner" and "Morty Meekle."

Sen. Albert M. Spradling Jr. of Cape Girardeau has been named winner of the Phi Delta Kappa layman's award for outstanding service in the field of public education in Missouri.

The Rev. Sidney Daniels, who came here from Texas recently and conducted a revival meeting at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ on South Sprigg Street, is the new pastor of the church after his election last Sunday.

The Rev. H.F. Schuermann speaks to members of the Louis K. Juden Post of the American Legion and auxiliary at a special Legion service in the morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church; it is the opening feature of American Legion Week.

1913

A crew of men under the direction of W.M. French, yard foreman, has been at work several days digging ditches and making improvements along the track in the neighborhood of the yards in South Cape; water from the steep hills and hollows just west of the shops had been overflowing the yards at every big rain.

J.W. Preston of McBride, Mo., came to Jackson on Tuesday with a whole wagon load of genuine bee honey, which he produced in his apiary in the hills on the Frisco railroad; Preston has the largest apiary in this part of the state, perhaps the largest in Missouri.
