Construction will begin Monday on storm sewers at new Central High School grounds, according to contractor, Chism & Miller of Springfield, Ill.; under contract, construction firm must complete work within 93 days from Monday.

Girardeans swarm their way to polls to cast ballots in most heated political contests in many years; one of oldest to cast ballot in morning is Louis F.M. Hopper, 89, of 220 N. Sprigg, in Ward 3; Timothy Hosmer and George Hunt, two Civil War veterans, vote in Ward 3.
Carrying county for Herbert Hoover, Republicans of Cape Girardeau County place all their nominees in county offices with exception of one; Nat M. Snider, World War veteran, is elected sheriff over J.W. Miller of Jackson, his Republican opponent.
