Thick blanket of snow that turned to slush dropped on Cape Girardeau and district late yesterday and early today; air transportation has been halted and highway traffic is partly stopped; weatherman says rain that melted snow this morning will itself change to snow later and continue through tonight; snow depths range from 5 to 7 inches in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison and Wayne counties.
Officers were elected and two committees were appointed to work on perfection of organization's music and drill at annual business meeting of Golden Troopers last night at American Legion Hall; Martin Johnston was reelected president.
75 years ago: Nov. 6, 1926
Bids for construction work on traffic bridge across Mississippi River will be opened on Nov. 30, and contract awarded following week; Harrington, Howard & Ash, engineers in charge of construction, will have plans completed by Nov. 10, and they will then be open to inspection of prospective contractors.
On display at The Missourian Building, thanks to Julien N. Friant, is pumpkin that looks like mountain; pumpkin was raised by Len Tucker near Rockview, in Scott County, and weighs 87 1/4 pounds; it measures 74 inches one way and 51 inches another.
