Mary Foote has been presented the Zonta Club's first annual Woman of Achievement Award.

The annual meeting of Lutheran churches in the Cape Girardeau Circuit is held in the evening at Trinity Lutheran School; appearing on the program are the Rev. Ralph C. Fessler, pastor of Trinity Church; the Rev. Eugene Pennekamp of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; the Rev. G.B. Seboldt of Zion Church at Gordonville, and the Rev. H.B. Belsheim of Sikeston, Mo.; 19 congregations are included in the circuit.

Lt. Gov. Hilary A. Bush of Missouri was the speaker last night when the Cape County Young Democrats organzation held its fall banquet at Cape Girardeau.

75 years ago: Nov. 5, 1936

Taking steps to curtail expenses to a point where revenue will take care of them without running the city into debt, the City Council has adopted a plan that will cut monthly operating expenses $1,255; the plan will take effect on or before Nov. 15, whenever department heads have determined on the manner in which they will take care of the reduction.

Workers are replacing glass in the 10 display windows of the Hirsch Bros. store, 241 S. Sprigg St., which were broken during Monday night's windstorm; workers from the plate glass factory at Crystal City, Mo., are doing the work.

100 years ago: Nov. 5, 1911

The Rev. J.H. Knehans, pastor of the German Methodist Episcopal Church, left Friday to attend the convention of the Epworth League at Appleton, Mo.; consequently, no morning services are held in the morning, but Knehans returns in time for the regular evening worship service.

The Rev. Ivan Lee Holt, new pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, has inaugurated a new idea in his Wednesday night meetings; along with the regular prayer service, he will conduct a meeting of business men in which ways for bettering civic conditions will be considered.
