Not in recent history, if ever, has the Cape Girardeau Police Department hosted as many convicted felons as are now in custody here; there are 13 prisoners spending time in the city jail, and 10 have already been convicted of crimes ranging from capital murder to sodomy and robbery; the city is obliging the Missouri State Penitentiary and the State Training Center for Men at Moberly, Mo., by holding the prisoners while cases in which they are involved are being heard in federal court here.

The home rule charter election in Cape Girardeau is generating little interest among voters, according to the number of voters who cast their ballots by late morning.

50 years ago: Nov. 3, 1956

A limited, one-way traffic system for Cape Girardeau's Main Street shopping area will begin Monday morning, following the opening today of a city parking lot on South Main Street, created as a result of the abandonment of the parkway which formerly occupied the center of that street.

State College's Homecoming parade is held in the afternoon, and in the evening the football Indians fall to the Warrensburg (Mo.) College Mules 26-21; the win places the Mules in a tie for first place with the Springfield (Mo.) Bears and Rolla (Mo.) Miners for the MIAA conference lead.

75 years ago: Nov. 3, 1931

R.B. Baker, proprietor of Valet Cleaners, 811 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, has purchased the Nuway Cleaners, 1027 Broadway; the place will be managed by T.P. Estes, who has been associated with B.A. and L.V. Estes, former owners of the plant; Baker will continue to operate Valet Cleaners.

Brickwork has been completed and the roof is being erected on a 10-room dwelling being built on North Park Avenue, just south of Normal Avenue, by William Schwartz.

100 years ago: Nov. 3, 1906

Word is received in Cape Girardeau in the morning that the Normal School football team was defeated yesterday at Kirksville, Mo., by the Normal team of that town; the score was 26-6; it was confidently expected that the locals would be able to defeat the Kirksville team by a handy score, but for some reason the reverse happened.

Charles Ward, an upholsterer of many years' experience, has located in Cape Girardeau and for the past two months has been doing some fine work.
