Storing shotguns and rifles in gun racks in the back windows of pickup trucks may be convenient for hunters, but it's also a temptation for gun thieves; Cape Girardeau police report that about a dozen pickups have been broken into in the past few weeks, and guns on the racks inside stolen.
A fire at Pioneer Orchards in Jackson Saturday morning destroyed a metal warehouse and between 4,500 and 6,000 bushels of apples stored inside; Stanley Beggs, owner, estimates the total damage at around $500,000.
