D.B. Jenks, president of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and John H. Lloyd, the railroad's vice president, both of St. Louis, stayed overnight here on a routine visit to the city; Jenks says Southeast Missouri shippers can look forward to improved freight service when Mo-Pac gains control of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Two Sikeston men -- Jesse Hamby Jr., 39, and Rudy Ferrell, 30 -- were killed in the crash of their light plane on Holden Mountain, Ark., last night; Hamby's son, 14-year-old Alan R. "Bob" Hamby, was injured in the crash.

75 years ago: Nov. 28, 1936

Unless better buildings and more modern facilities are provided immediately, the two nursery schools in the Smelterville suburb will be closed Dec. 15, says Anita K. Hynes, director of women's and professional projects for Missouri under the Works Progress Administration; Hynes says the schools are being held in the worst buildings and under the worst sanitary conditions of any in the state.

Cape Girardeau kicked off the Christmas season with a bang last night, as thousands crowded the sidewalks and craned their necks to get a glimpse of the attractive display windows in more than 120 retail establishments, most of which used live models.

100 years ago: Nov. 28, 1911

Manager Robert E.L. Lamkin of the Buckner-Ragsdale Store has told his clerks they need not report for work at all on Thanksgiving Day, but that they may take the whole day off for rest and recreation; the store will stay open later tomorrow to accommodate shoppers.

Sam McClatchey has moved his plumbing business from upper Broadway to the Grissom building at Broadway and Spanish Street.
