25 years ago: Nov. 28, 1979

About 15 parents and members of the Gordonville Parent-Teacher Organization appeared before the Jackson school board last night to protest the board's decision to eliminate the first-grade classroom at the Gordonville School and bus the first graders to the Primary Annex at Jackson.

CAIRO, Ill. -- Members of the Multi-County Ambulance Service board have voted to dissolve the organization; Alexander County late yesterday formed its own service, and Pulaski County is looking for ways to provide service to its residents.

50 years ago: Nov. 28, 1954

The Rev. William J. Setzer of St. Louis, chairman of the Missouri Temperance League, is guest speaker in the morning at First Baptist Church and in the evening at Red Star Baptist Church.

The Rev. J.E. Herman, stewardship counselor of Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church, is the last of the guest centennial speakers at Trinity Lutheran Church for all three morning services.

75 years ago: Nov. 28, 1929

Thanksgiving Day. Business is generally suspended in Cape Girardeau; union church services for congregations in the Ministerial Alliance are held in the evening at Centenary Methodist Church.

Earnings of the Hotel Marquette during the first year of its operation were sufficient to make payments to the Cape Girardeau Hotel Co., to reduce the bonded debt on the building $7,500.

100 years ago: Nov. 28, 1904

One more bridge worker has fallen to his death at Thebes, Ill.; the latest victim, John Howequy, fell 70 feet last week; this makes 22 men killed so far in constructing the railroad bridge.

The Rev. R.S. Brown, pastor of the Presbyterian church, buys the nice home of Mollie Woods, 225 N. Ellis St.; he will take possession on Dec. 5.
