MOUNDS, Ill. -- The Meridian Unit 101 School District plans to begin moving its elementary school operation into its new elementary complex during the Christmas holiday break; the new grade school facilities are on a 40-acre site adjacent to the present high school.
Scott City is one of 25 Missouri towns which has been awarded funds for an outdoor recreation project; the Scott City project is for a community park development, and the amount awarded was $10,500; the grant funds must be matched dollar for dollar with local funds designated for outdoor recreation projects.
An overnight flurry of developments plunges the Cape State champion Indians into the midst of consideration for one of the two spots in the Tangerine Bowl football game in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 2; but it is still a long way from consideration to selection; a final decision will be made Monday night by the selections committee.
Dates for the formal observance of Cape Girardeau's Sesquicentennial, the city's 150th birthday, have been set for next Aug. 19 to 25; A.C. Brase is chairman of a six-member executive committee in charge of planning the event.
In response to the plight of children whose parents are unable to buy food for their children, the Parent-Teacher Unit at Broadway School has launched a campaign to provide lunch for such youngsters in the school cafeteria; the unit is sponsoring a benefit supper at First Baptist Church on Dec. 2 to help raise the money needed.
Damages totaling $60,950 were allowed landowners in Mississippi County in 23 cases involving condemnation of land for the government's setback levee in reports filed in federal court by three appraisers; the largest single award is to Roy L. Williams, contractor of Charleston, Mo., who received $11,900 for 36.22 acres of land.
The congregation of the Christian Church has sold its church property, and plans are under way for the construction of a nice, new building; until that time, W.W. Durham, the Sunday school superintendent, asks that the children attend Sunday school at other churches.
The Rev. Daniel S. Tuttle, bishop of the Diocese of Missouri, preaches in the morning and in the evening at the Episcopal Church; Tuttle is one of the most noted divines in the Episcopal church.
