Flu virus is creeping closer to Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri; Missouri Department of health says latest confirmed cases of flu were reported in St. Louis County and in Texas County, 115 miles west of Poplar Bluff; statewide, 35 laboratory-confirmed cases of flu have been reported.

Cape Chemical Co. has paid $470,000 in settlements for pollution of Kem-Pest Superfund site; office of Missouri Attorney General William L. Webster says company's owners paid $30,000 under court order for pollution cleanup and environmental damage.

25 years ago: Nov. 26, 1976

Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents has offered to purchase for $150,000 building which formerly housed St. Francis Hospital at 825 Good Hope; university plans to convert building into dormitory housing between 150 and 200 single students, if agreement with hospital officials can be made.

Presiding over ribbon-pulling ceremony at new Rivertown Center on Main Street is 6-month-old Erin Foot, grandson of Wallace Knight, owner of Cape Girardeau's new mini-mall.

50 years ago: Nov. 26, 1951

There will again be Christmas baskets for deserving in Cape Girardeau this year, but size of job ahead remains to be fully chartered; survey shows that Salvation Army will again head list of those participating in venture.

Missouri Utilities Co. crewmen begin putting up strands of multi-colored lights in three business sections preparatory to placing of new aluminum decorations for Christmas season; shiny new decorations will be placed around wires holding lights; big wreathes, each with star in center, will hang at street intersections.

75 years ago: Nov. 26, 1926

After 42 years of service in Lorimier School, during which she taught two generations of Cape Girardeans, May Greene is to be transferred in January to become principal of Washington School; with opening that month of new Washington School annex, Greene will assume direction of unit of school system nearly twice as large as one she now directs.

Playing on muddy field that heavily hampers their fast backfield men, Jackson High School took annual Turkey Day grid clash from Cape Girardeau Central, 9-0, yesterday.
